For their traditional open-air concert at Berlin's Waldbühne, Daniel Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra welcome back an old and dear friend: cellist Yo-Yo Ma took part in the orchestra's founding workshop in Weimar in 1999 and has long been an honorary member of the Divan. Together with the young musicians from Israel, Palestine, and many other countries in the Middle East and North Africa, he will perform Antonín Dvořák's famous Cello Concerto. A fitting match for the midsummer setting, Mendelssohn's “Italian” Symphony, one of the most lyrical works in the orchestral repertoire, completes the program.
