For a quarter of a century, the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra has proven that through music-making and co-existence a dialogue between the different cultures of the Middle East is possible. Its 25th anniversary comes at a time when this message deserves to be heard perhaps more clearly than ever before. Led by Daniel Barenboim, the young musicians celebrate the orchestra’s birthday with a concert at the Berlin Philharmonie, while at the same time reinforcing their passionate commitment to its mission.
In addition to Bruckner’s “Romantic” Symphony No. 4, the program includes Felix Mendelssohn’s beloved Violin Concerto with soloist Yamen Saadi, a Barenboim-Said Akademie alumnus and former concertmaster of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra who has held the same position with the Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera for the last two years.
